SatFinder

Dish Pointer

SatFinder User Guide

Don't rely on a compass, it has inaccuracies! โ˜ The main advantage of this app is the ability to create a highly accurate landmark on-site, eliminating compass errors and the need to calculate magnetic azimuth.

Main Features of the App

No-GPS Mode

How to conduct a quick check for signal obstacles anywhere on Earth

  1. Turn off GPS in the app menu;
  2. Select the desired satellite or specify the direction in the menu;
  3. Find the planned installation site on the map and long tap on it โ†’ a direction indicator and aiming parameters will appear in the information panel. Look at the map and decide whether the chosen installation site is acceptable.

Now you know for sure that nothing will interfere with the installation and you're ready for the main task!

GPS Mode

How to aim the dish at the satellite

  1. Make sure you have internet and GPS enabled. Also, note that for accurate determination, you need to be outdoors;
  2. In the "Aiming" section of the side menu, select the desired satellite/specify the direction โ†’ your location and the direction indicator to the satellite will appear on the map, and your coordinates, GPS status, and aiming parameters will appear in the information panel at the top;
  3. Wait for maximum GPS accuracy (it may take time to determine the coordinates). Accuracy depends on the location, with a good value being <5 m;
  4. Place the phone as close as possible to the antenna installation point (height doesn't matter, you can stand right under the dish if it's mounted on a wall);
  5. If the direction indicator on the map intersects with landmarks visible from the installation site (building, lake, hill, etc.), aim the dish at them, set the elevation angle, and proceed to fine-tuning using the receiver's scale;

If the quality of satellite images is low or there are no available landmarks within sight, then:

  1. Fix the current position of the dish with a long tap or in the side menu โ†’ the coordinates will be saved, the direction indicator will now originate from the saved position, not your real one;
  2. Move away from the dish in the direction of the indicator for 100-300 m (the farther, the more accurate the landmark you set) โ†’ the information panel will show the calculated azimuth for aiming the dish ("Azimuth") and the current azimuth direction towards you ("Current"). Achieve maximum similarity of these readings;
  3. Set a landmark on the ground at the point of maximum azimuth match. This could be a stick stuck in the ground, a stool, etc.;
  4. Return to your dish, aim it at the set landmark, and adjust the elevation angle;
  5. Proceed to fine-tuning using the receiver's scale.

And voilร , your satellite dish is set up! Congratulations. Directv, dish network, all sorts of dish tv and internet are there - enjoy!
